Misconception Fall 2021
For my senior collection, Misconception, I was inspired by the French word Trompe-l'œil which is the visual illusion in art, meaning to deceive the eye. I wanted to incorporate this concept into my collection to make others stop and observe in order for them to then form their own opinion, rather than adapting someone else’s.
When doing my research I came across inkblots that are used in psychological tests and are meant for open interpretation. I found it fitting to in(k)corporate these different inkblots into my designs by printing and hand painting my own fabrics.
The Process
Misconception It is intended to be an evening wear line for any occasion. For my collection I used variations of white satins, silks, and champagne sheers such as voile and tulle to demonstrate the reflection of light and luminosity presented in my concept board. I used white as the primary color used throughout my collection to serve as a blank canvas for the black ink blots implemented into each look - done so by using different methods such as digital printing and hand painting. Each silhouette was individually designed for each model to compliment their body types and cater to their favorite body features. This was accomplished with the use of tulle and voile to create structure emphasizing the silhouettes of each design and creating movement.
